Kirby Congdon is a poet, essayist, playright and artist based in Fire Island Pines and Key West. A contemporary of the Beats, he eschewed their approach to language and became a figure of the underground literary scene of the 1960's. Through his Cycle Press, which he established with partner Ralph Simmons Jr, and other ventures, Congdon published and promoted the work of many artists, writers and poets.
An accomplished visual artist, he has exhibited work in solo and group exhibitions since the 1960's. Consistent mediums include metal work, found objects, drawing and collage.
